Family Rafting on the Vaal
Come to the spectacular Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site where the Vaal River carves between islands and mountains. On our family run the rapids are mild to moderate. Go on a 4-8 seater. Or you can choose a two-seater to paddle yourselves. There are even passenger rafts where you don’t need to lift a finger.
Big stuff on the Vaal
The river can get big after rains and dam releases – very big. When it is, we pick routes for those who want a blast and aren’t afraid of a swim. Sign up for the Whitewater Watch List and we’ll let you know when the big water trips are on. This is not for families with young kids but we will take 14-60 year olds.
Vredefort Dome by Water
In 2023 for the first time we’ve introduced expertly guided tours of the Vredefort Dome by river. The Dome marks the centre of the world’s largest and best preserved meteorite impact site. The scenery is utterly spectacular, and the story of what happened here is amazing. You can raft the rapids, or canoe the easy stretches, or just float downriver with a guide in an oarboat.
Orange River expeditions
The magnificent Orange River – the Nile of South Africa – has long stretches with wonderful scenery and few rapids. That’s where you’ll find us on multi-day expeditions. One of our favourite routes is in the Northern Cape from Prieska to Koegas, where the river flows along the cliff edge of the world’s oldest continent. There are other scenic routes too., 3-5 days. River camping
The best way to do a river and really gain peace of spirit is to join a multi-day expedition. We offer regular trips on various rivers. Go fishing in the mornings, at lunch time and in the evenings. Watch the cool mist rising off the water at dawn, and enjoy sundowners in the glow of evening. Listen to our Star Talk as the universe hangs overhead.
